How we research

Every guide is written from the agencies that run the programs: their program rules, income limit charts, state plans and application portals. We do not rely on third-party summaries.

Each guide shows the program year its figures apply to, the date it was last checked and a numbered source for every figure. Applying for public assistance is always free; we never ask for your details. Read the full methodology.
